A One-of-a-Kind Dublin Experience: The Iconic Guinness Storehouse

January 11, 2020

< back to blog

If you find yourself in Dublin for a girl’s trip or as a solo female traveler exploring the beauty of Ireland, The Guinness Storehouse is the perfect place to stop during your travels. Do you enjoy a nice pint of beer, learning about history, or would you enjoy 360 views of Dublin from a rooftop bar? If so, then you’ll appreciate everything the Guinness Storehouse has to offer.

What Is Guinness Storehouse?

The Guinness Storehouse is consistently rated as Ireland’s number one visitor attraction, making it a must on any trip to Dublin. The Guinness Brewery is housed in an old fermentation plant in the heart of St. James’s Gate Brewery. It tells the story of Ireland’s iconic drink and brings to life its heritage with a seven-story visitor experience that culminates at Gravity Bar. This bar offers a free pint of Guinness and breath-taking 360 views of Dublin City– the perfect place to end your brewery tour.

The story of Guinness begins over 250 years ago but don’t worry about it closing any time soon either. Arthur Guinness, the founder of Guinness, originally signed a 9,000-year lease on the building’s current location.

What Can I Expect at the Guinness Storehouse?

One of the most popular activities at the Guinness Storehouse is their 3-hour walking tour, costing 95 euros per person. The journey begins in the Roast House. The roast house is where they roast the barley to a whopping 232 degrees Celsius, following a traditional recipe handed down through generations of brewers.

Next, you’ll be taken to the 200-year-old Vat Houses, where the Guinness is matured for months before it can begin its long journey across the world to be shared by a multitude of its faithful followers.

Then, you’ll be able to say that you followed in Arthur Guinness’ footsteps through the historic railway lines and cobbled stones. After going through the underground tunnel, visitors get an opportunity to see Brewhouse 4, where Guinness is brewed today.

After the long journey, you’ll finally go into the Guinness Open Gate Brewery, where you get samples of limited-edition brews only offered in this location.

Your tour is finally capped off with a beer and food tasting, lead by one of the Guinness Storehouse specialist guides. There, you’ll even learn how to pour the perfect glass of Guinness, which is a must for any beer fan, and receive a special gift to remember your time here.

The Breathtaking Gravity Bar Offers Spectacular Dublin Views

If you weren’t already in love with the tour and production of Guinness, you’ll appreciate the top floor of the Storehouse because it’s considered the best rooftop bar in Ireland. Featuring a panoramic view of Dublin that is unparalleled to any other, the Gravity Bar is sure to take your breath away from your first step inside.

Once you have finished admiring the views, you can order your pint, included with the tour. Now you can truly enjoy yourself as you watch Dublin from one of its highest points. As you look around, you will also see where Guinness sources its water for brewing, the Wicklow mountains.

As you look over Dublin City, you can easily plan out your whole trip, with a birds-eye-view of everything it has to offer.

What Tours Are Available At Guinness Storehouse?

There are currently three different tours available, ranging from a self-guided tour to a 3-hour walking experience. These options include:

  • Guinness Brewery Tour – For the ultimate Guinness experience, look no further than this tour. It will give you information all about Guinness–its roots, its brewing, and Dublin. You’ll also have exclusive access to Dublinia and the Guinness Storehouse’s Taproom for a beer tasting and food pairing session!
  • Self-Guided Gravity bar – This tour allows you to enjoy the Gravity Bar at your own pace. With each ticket, you’ll be able to enjoy a complimentary beer or soft drink as well as the ability to explore the history of Guinness through our iconic building. You will need proof of immunity to experience the indoor bar.
  • Self-Guided Brewery Yard Bar – If you want all of the same perks of the self-guided Gravity bar tour but would instead like to enjoy the Brewery Yard Bar, you’ll want to choose this option. No proof of immunity is necessary for this experience.

Dublin is The Perfect Solo Travelers Dream

Dublin is the perfect place for a solo traveler or a girl’s trip. The Storehouse and Dublinia offer something for everyone. Dublinia provides an exclusive experience, combing Irish history with Dublin, which is also Guinness history.

After enjoying these historic areas, head on over to Dublin’s City Centre to take in the traditional architecture that this area has to offer. It perfectly encapsulates Dublin’s long-standing reputation for welcoming visitors from all over the world, which is why it’s dubbed a truly international city!

When you’re ready to enjoy some of Dublin’s finest shops, restaurants, pubs, and historical sites, head on over to Dublin’s Georgian Quarter. Meticulously preserved in the heart of Dublin City Centre, this area dates back to the 1720s marking the beginning of Dublin’s Golden Age.
